Stephan Schwenk, born on October 18, 1963 in Cologne, is a prominent figure in the German radio landscape. After spending his childhood in Cologne and Bavaria, he began his career as a talented soccer player before focusing on a career in broadcasting. After graduating from high school, he studied business administration and journalism at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, writing his thesis on the development of private radio stations in Germany. While still a student, he hosted Radio Charivari in Nuremberg and developed the first German nighttime talk show, "Herzflimmern."

In 1989, Schwenk founded his first private radio company and served as managing director of Hit Radio N1 in Nuremberg, one of Germany's first youth-oriented radio stations. From 1993 onward, he played a key role in establishing Viva TV before further expanding his career in radio. Among other projects, he founded Hitradio X in Aachen, which quickly built a large fan base before being shut down due to political problems in Belgium.

In Berlin, Schwenk developed the successful Spreeradio and led it to the top league of Berlin stations. In 2005, he sold the station to the RTL Group and invested in additional radio projects. He became managing director of Radio Hamburg, where he led the station to become the market leader in Hamburg. He expanded his portfolio with the founding of additional stations such as Radio Cottbus and Antenne Koblenz.

From 2007, he headed the Radio Group and expanded it with numerous new stations in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. A highlight was the acquisition of Energy Rhein.Main, which later became Antenne Frankfurt. Schwenk consistently set new standards, such as the construction of the spectacular radio studios in Frankfurt. Today, he is one of the most experienced local radio producers in the German-speaking world.

Schwenk is also a passionate supporter of social projects. He is involved with numerous aid organizations such as SOS Children's Villages, UNICEF, and World Vision. Together with his wife Michaela, he is committed to creating moments of happiness for people in need under the motto "give a little happiness." He supports the Voice Aid Association eV through the DIPESH project.

In addition, the Radiogroup and the Voice Aid Association developed an awards ceremony to honor sustainable companies and people who are committed to society, the “Golden Planet Award”.

With a total of 26 broadcast launches and as the founder of one of the few media companies in broadcasting that are independent of publishers and corporations, Schwenk has had a lasting impact on the media landscape.
